What an honor to be invited into the space of a family who has just welcomed a baby into their lives. This session with baby girl Aniceta was especially meaningful, since I had photographed Shayla's pregnancy. Her epic maternity session with husband Gabe at the Brazos Cliffs was one for this history books.
I also wanted to highlight this session, because it's important to understand the two different approaches to newborn photography. Some photographers specialize in posed newborn photography, and they have invested in studio space, backdrops, and special props and swaddles to position babies into all of those adorable poses. My approach is lifestyle newborn photography, which happens in the home, relies on authentic moments like breast-feeding and burping, and focuses on the the interaction between baby and parents. Generally, this style feels more natural and intimate, and it integrates well with my overall storytelling approach to photography.
