Curated Santa Fe Portrait Locations

Santa Fe is a city of timeless beauty, where adobe architecture, artistic details, and natural landscapes come together in a way found nowhere else. The Santa Fe Collection is designed for those who want beautiful, effortless portraits in thoughtfully chosen locations throughout the city and surrounding areas.

Historic Downtown

The heart of Santa Fe offers an incredible variety of portrait settings within a walkable area. From the historic Plaza and Cathedral Basilica to adobe walls and eclectic Canyon Road, downtown Santa Fe's unique architecture offers a plethora of vignettes.

I love photographing downtown because every street has its own personality. The mix of art, architecture, culture, and history creates images that feel unmistakably Santa Fe, whether we are wandering quiet pathways or admiring colorful doorways. For couples, seniors, and families who want their images to capture the spirit of the city, downtown offers endless possibilities without the need for a long drive.

Santa Fe National Forest

As the road climbs into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the landscape transforms into cool forests of ponderosa and aspen. The trail system surrounding Ski Santa Fe offers peaceful woodland settings that are especially beautiful for portraits. During peak fall color in early October, the trails become a favorite destination for leaf peepers, but with thoughtful timing it's still one of my favorite nearby locations for autumn sessions. And in winter, a fresh snowfall transforms the forest into a quiet wonderland. If you're dreaming of alpine forests rather than panoramic overlooks, this is one of my favorite places to photograph.

Nambe Badlands

Just a few miles north of Santa Fe, the Nambe Badlands offer a striking contrast of sculpted desert formations and distant mountain views. I especially love this location in late spring, when snow still rests on the high peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, creating a beautiful meeting point between desert and alpine landscapes.

The layered earth, winding trails, and big skies provide endless opportunities for portraits that feel both adventurous and effortless. It’s one of my favorite locations for families, couples, and seniors who want the essence of New Mexico’s wild beauty without traveling far from Santa Fe.

Galisteo Basin Preserve

Just outside of Santa Fe, the Galisteo Basin Preserve has been one of my favorite places to explore for years. In 2025, I discovered new sections of the trail system that revealed even more of its unique geology, making it one of my favorite locations for a variety of portrait sessions.

From sandstone slots and winding trails to open high desert grasslands, the possibilities are endless. The only limit is how far you’re willing to wander. With its unobstructed skies and geological wonder, Galisteo is especially magical at sunrise and sunset. Its dark skies also make it a beautiful setting for stargazing and night photography. A favorite among locals, Galisteo offers the feeling of a remote desert escape without leaving Santa Fe behind.

Santa Fe Botanical Garden

In late spring and summer, the Santa Fe Botanical Garden bursts into color with blooming roses, fragrant lavender, and vibrant sunflowers, making it one of the most lush and scenic photography locations in Santa Fe. Set against sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, this garden showcases curated and native plants. It’s an ideal setting for engagement sessions, family portraits, maternity photography, and branding shoots for clients who prefer greenery and flowers over the rugged desert terrain typical of Northern New Mexico. This location does require a small ticket fee for entry.

The Randall Davey Audubon Center

Summertime at the Audubon feels like stepping into a hidden garden from another era. Lush blooms, winding pathways, and the warm pink adobe walls of the historic building create a timeless setting with subtle European charm. Each corner offers a new vignette, from quiet architectural details to colorful gardens filled with life.

Beyond the gardens, native chamisa create a playful space for curious toddlers, while hummingbirds and other creatures bring movement and a sense of wonder to the experience. I love the Audubon for its nostalgic beauty and the way it captures a softer side of Santa Fe.
