The Art of getting Married in Taos
Taos has a way of attracting people who march to the beat of their own drum. There is an earthy creativity woven into this place, where art, landscape, and culture come together in a rugged conversation that is distinctly Taos. It's a fitting setting for couples looking for something outside the expected, with an incredible range of locations, experiences, and price points to make a small wedding or elopement their own.
This microwedding moved between two very different Taos landscapes, beginning beneath the dramatic silhouette of Kachina Peak at Taos Ski Valley, with a celebratory stop for beers at the Bavarian, before making its way to the West Rim Trail. By late afternoon, the light along the gorge had taken on that particular quality I love about Northern New Mexico: warm, shifting, and almost otherworldly against the rugged terrain. It's hard to imagine a more distinctly Taos setting for getting married.
I've photographed along the West Rim Trail near the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge several times now, and it is absolutely spectacular at sunset. But I'm equally drawn to the possibilities at the new Kachina base platform, with Kachina Peak rising dramatically behind it and the kind of mountain scenery that makes you want to linger a little longer. Taos Ski Valley has expanded its offerings in recent years, with a variety of reception spaces that make it an appealing option for intimate weddings and celebrations. Add in the possibility of a private Airbnb with mountain views, and there are so many ways to shape a Taos wedding experience around what matters most to you.
